On enough caffeine to wake up from a migraine

This morning I woke up with an incredible migraine. It seems to happen in May in Colorado, and so I can only conclude that it definitely has something to do with barometric pressure change and weather. The same thing can affect my artistic choices, and this video means to talk about that...

Humility and Art

Trying to find a way to say that I am very humble about the fact that I was given so many gifts during my childhood that made my artistic talent, and spent much of my life pretending it wasn't important, and didn't affect the way I see things. The fact that I am only now beginning to share what I know, and have experienced and am receiving so much praise for is something that I can't say, "Thank you," for enough. It is really just a foundation that I'm beginning to expose and I hope that I have time in my life to develop and make stronger.

Live Small, Create Big

For some reason, Blogger is not letting me embed the video on today's blog, and in this one I actually have a smile on the still! Who knows why these things happen? Maybe I'll have a chance to fix this later, but for now, please visit this link to understand why I competed in the Daniel Smith Art Contest, and what I think about working, as an artist, at home.

I am a big believer in LIMITATION as a good place to begin creating. I'll talk more about this if it interests you.

Ear Worms That Run Through My Head Until I Draw

Songs repeat themselves on some days and they don't arise from the pop music my kids often listen to, but from my own youth. I'm not sure why, but "Twisted" often comes up as the song I want to sing. It is perhaps because it is funny and I feel this way sometime, but I also think it is because it expresses an era out of my reach and that I admire from afar...

Removing the Logical Reasons....

Leaving the feeling that art is a great hobby, and believing it can be more has been, perhaps, a lifetime challenge. Art as a hobby runs in my family. Only my mother has made an effort to make art for a living. She's had ups and downs, but now that I'm trying it myself, I have to take off my hat to her for setting the path. Happy Mother's Day!

How to Create a Story Visually...one idea

As Mother's Day approaches, I would bereft if I didn't acknowledge that so much of what I know about art came through my mother. If it wasn't her words, it was in a gift she's given me over the years. I hang onto the ones that strike deepest.

Telling My Story in New Ways

I'm giving something new a try. I'm going to make short, as short as possible, videos about things that I am considering as I build an art business. As art is an expression of life, not just my own life, but the life of my family and community, I want a way to annotate it without writing round and round. At least right now. So, here are the first week's posts. None are over five minutes, I promise. When I am inspired to dive deeper into something, I will, doubtless, write. In the meantime, let me know how this lands for you...

Very General Beginnings....
